R.I.P. Amy Winehouse

The music industry has lost one of its greats today. It is being reported that Amy Winehouse, a 27 year old singer best known for her jazzy and soulful voice, has died today. According to an article on the LA Times' website, paramedics were called to her house in London around 4p.m. Saturday afternoon. Upon arrival, they found the singer dead. Her death comes after a few years of ups and downs and a very public battle with drug and alcohol addiction.Her official cause of death has not yet been released, but many speculate that it was likely a drug overdose. This story is still developing, and I will update you guys when I receive more information.

Avocado Disaster Update!

Hey heart breakers! I am back with an update on how the avocado fiasco worked out. If you have no clue what I am referring to, please click here to read about what happened to me a few days ago. So last time I left you guys, I was headed to the shower. I Shampooed my hair with Roux Porosity Control shampoo. I  then did an Aphogee 2 minute protein treatment. I followed that up with Roux Porosity Control Conditioner. While that was still in my hair, I combed through my hair in tiny sections. I never really comb my hair, but I wanted to make sure I got all of the avocado crud out of my hair this time lol. So, combing through my hair in tiny sections was about a 40 minute process...whew! My hair is reallllllly thick, so that's why it took so long! I then hopped back in the shower and rinsed out the Roux Conditioner. After getting out of the shower, I noticed that my hair seemed to be pretty much back to normal. Pictures of my end result are below...

J-lo & Marc Anthony Have Called It Quits!

Well it seems like Jenny is headed back to the block...to find a new man! Jennifer Lopez and her husband of seven years, Marc Anthony are now headed for divorce court. The couple announced their split yesterday via a press release to People Magazine."We have decided to end our marriage," they tell PEOPLE in a joint statement. "This was a very difficult decision. We have come to an amicable conclusion on all matters." For most people, this might seem like a relatively short marriage. However, given Lopez's trail of short and failed marriages...7 years is actually a long time. In my opinion, Lopez would be better off never getting married again. It's obvious that she is simply not marriage material. Sadly, Lopez and Anthony's split will now be further complicated because they have children together.

Lopez gave birth to twins three years ago, so it will be interesting to see how they will be effected by the divorce. Bouncing from man-to-man will likely be hard on her children in the long run. Jenny's revolving door could leave those poor kids with "are you my daddy?" syndrome. But I digress! I have to admit, I didn't think they would last initially. However, after a few years, I thought maybe...just maybeeee this one would work. I guess in true Hollywood style relationships just aren't meant to last.

Homemade Avacado Deep Conditioner = Epic Fail!

When it comes to beauty, veggies and fruits aren't only used to help maintain a balanced diet and tight physique! Some of them are used for hair and skin treatments as well! My latest experiment was making a homemade avocado hair conditioning treatment & facial mask! Before I get to the details of my horrible experience, let me give you a list of the ingredients that were used in my mixture.

Ingredients for my hair conditioner:

• 1 ripe avocado
• 2 tablespoons of honey
• 2 tablespoons of Extra virgin olive oil
• 2 tablespoons of light mayo

I mixed all of the ingredients in a bowl and tried to "mash" the avocado well enough to get rid of any clumps. I even did a little mashing with my hands too! I then applied the mixture to my head, and put on a plastic cap and then covered that with a head scarf to seal in the heat and help it "marinate" so to speak. I left  the conditioner on for about an hour or so while I worked out and did some stuff around the house. I then used the left overs as a facial mask! The facial mask part went well, but the hair - not so much.When I removed the plastic cap I noticed some of my curls were almost straight(forgot to snap pics of this)! The ones in the back had maybe an inch of almost straight ends, and the hair was able to touch my shoulder...while curly! The hair was NOT like that before doing the treatment.

Curly Hair = Security Threat When Flying...

Touching a woman's hair has always been surrounded in controversy (especially in the black community). For many women, their hair is a very personal thing which leads to the issue of touching it being taboo. However, if you plan on traveling this summer, you might want to prepare for a major pat down.The TSA is now singling out women who have curly manes and insisting on doing an inspection of their hair before clearing them through security. Laura Adiele, whose hair was pulled up into a curly ponytail, was harassed by TSA workers recently, and she says the search was unfair. According to Adiele, there were several women in line with their hair pulled into up similar to hers, yet they weren't searched. The difference??? Adiele is black and the women around her were not black. Personally, after watching the video below I don't see why she was singled out. Especially considering the fact that Adiele went through the scanner that allows TSA staff to see advanced images of her entire body prior to them asking to search her hair. If anything was in her hair, it surely would have been seen during her in depth full body scan. With that said, I don't really think it was necessary to search her hair. I understand making sure people are "safe" before granting them access to fly and etc, but something about this rubs me the wrong way. Probably because I have natural hair...I don't know. I guess if I were in her shoes, I would let them search me, but I would feel very violated and offended while they were doing so. How would you feel if TSA asked to search your hair? Fourth of July Weekend Wrap Up!

Happy belated 4th of July everyone! I hope you all had a great weekend...I surely did! This weekend was pretty laid back for hubby and I. We spent Friday night at home watching movies together. Saturday, we went to a friend's barbecue and had a blast! Sunday, we went out to eat with hubby's family at an awesome Vietnamese restaurant in town. It was my first time having Vietnamese food btw, and it was delicious! We drove downtown on Sunday night, hoping to see a fireworks show. It was super crowded, so we decided to leave and head home for the night without watching the show. I'm glad we left, because there was actually a shooting downtown, and a police officer was killed!

On Monday, we went to see transformers 3 in 3D! It was amazing!!!!! For those of you who are thinking about seeing the movie...DO ITTTT! Anywho, I was so excited and I dressed for the occasion. I wore my red Transformers T-shirt and my blue shorts. Which if you are interested in seeing what I am talking about, please click here to view my 4th of July haul video. It has all of my 4th of July weekend attire in it! But getting back to what we did on Monday... We came home and made some barbecue hamburgers after seeing transformers. We then headed to see a local fireworks show. The show was great. Although, there was a family sitting next to us being loud the entire time. The mom and dad apparently didn't explain fireworks to their son. The little boy looked to be around 4 years old, and he was terrified throughout the entire show. He kept crying and begging his mom to leave, but his mom kept yelling "Shut the f**k up!" and "What the f**k you crying for?" at him. She should have consoled the poor child instead of yelling curse words at him...smh! But wrapping things up here, it was a good show...and a great weekend overall!

Big hair is fierce, fun, and sexy...but can it be an inconvenience to those around you in public?? This is one question that has stood out in my mind lately.
