Working Woman...

In this week's celeb makeover news Rihanna has been seen sporting a new do'. The Barbadian singer has been  known to change it up pretty often. This time she is rocking a blonde wig, or perhaps it is a full sew-in. Either way it looks like she is channeling Tina Turner and Heather Locklear back in the 80s. I think the 80s and 90s are back in style, but she is incorporating too many elements in this one look. She comes across as trashy and dumpster chic...minus the chic.

The shorts are in style again, and can look decent depending on how you wear them. Thigh high "hooker" boots are also all the rage these days. But I think they are a bit classier when paired with black skinny pants/jeans and a nice blouse. It looks a little more sexy and high class that way instead of coming off like a street walker. 

 

And lastly, there's the horrible blonde weave or wig. I love blonde hair on black women, and I think many of of us can pull it off because it contrasts with our skin and "pops" so to speak. However, she chose a horrible wig. It looks a bit ratty and trailer park-ish. I'm guessing this is what she was going for, but it is so unflattering. If I saw her walking down the street, I would definitely think she was a street walker. The look is so cheap and tacky! I feel like she is on her way to one of those 80s rock videos. You know, the ones with the women in daisy dukes and bikini tops dancing on the hood of a red corvette or something lol. Great, now I can't get "Pour Some Sugar on Me" out of my head. Personally, I would like to see Rihanna try wearing braids or dread locs. She could even wear them in red, blonde or some funky color that would suit her! I think that would look really nice on her and accentuate her island side. We haven't seen her island flavor in a while, so braids/locs would be refreshing. Plus, it would be a little different from what most pop stars are wearing right now. Other than Solange, most people are rocking a very cookie-cutter look.

Don't Dream it's Over....

Hello heartbreakers! I hope you are having a  "fantastical" weekend! I decided to talk about romance for a change. Well, by romance I mean the string of shocking divorce announcements that have recently occurred.  Some of the hottest celebrity "it" couples have been calling it quits lately. And I'm not talking about people who pulled a Kim Kardashian, I'm referring to couples who seemed like they were truly going to make it as naive as that sounds. You know...the ones who seemed normal and stable. First there were whispers of Jada and Will ending their marriage.

This is probably the most "shock worthy" break up and it hasn't even officially happened yet! For months, these two have denied rumors that they were headed for splitsville. Something some "insiders" say was caused by their differing opinions on how to raise their children(career-wise).  They have publicly denied divorce claims, but a new insider now claims Jada has moved out of their home this week and into her brother's house. The "insider" says the two A- listers are trying to end things slowly so the kids don't get hurt in the process. A divorce announcement should be coming any day now...ugh!

In other news...

Demi Moore and Ashton Kutcher  threw in the towel a few weeks ago...officially.  After spending months fighting off rumors that Ashton was having an affair with multiple young women. As it turns out, he was and Demi has now gone all "cray cray." She's now battling anorexia and doing "whip-its." Meanwhile, Ashton is out partying with every young groupie he can get his hands on....smh. I just can't!

And let's not forget the California girl herself...

 Katy Perry said goodbye to hubby Russell Brand. News of their divorce recently made headlines too. I must admit, I thought they were a strange pair from the start. I don't really take him to be the kind of guy that likes women. But they seemed strangely happy together, so I thought they just might make it. What a shame!

Heidi Klum and Seal also pulled a shocker when they announced their split last week.

 I would say this was the 2nd most shocking divorce of them all. I mean, people LOVEEEE Heidi and Seal together, and their story was so romantic and sweet. They seemed generally very happy. But looks can be deceiving. Too bad there's no happy ending, or isssss there?? Oddly, this divorce announcement comes just in time for seals new album release lol. He's been milking the situation and doing interviews all this week too! Part of me wonders if this is just a publicity stunt. But I don't see them being the kind of couple that would go that low. You never know...anything is possible in hollyweird! 

And lastly, here's another divorce that was pre-announced this week. Meaning the couple hasn't actually filed yet, but sources say the odds of a divorce announcement soon are looking HELLA good.  According to Star Magazine, Gwen Stefani and Gavin Rossdale are ending their 10 year marriage because Gwen can no longer trust him.

I can't blame her. Throughout their marriage, he's revealed  tons of  secrets. Two years into their marriage, Gwen found out Gavin had a secret child(who was almost a freaking teenager by the time the secret came out). Her name is Daisy Lowe and she is now old enough to be in Playboy 23 years old.

In 2009 another big secret came out of the closet. It was revealed that Gavin carried on a long affair with a fellow by the name of Peter Robinson (who looks a lot like Gwen in my opinion).

Gavin admitted to the affair and Gwen decided to stay by his side. But the latest "secret" came out in 2010 when Courtney Love admitted in an interview with Howard Stern that Gavin cheated on Gwen with her and multiple women for years!  Seriously, who hasn't slept with this guy ???  I don't blame you Gwennie. Leave him and head straight to the clinic for some lab tests  do what is best for you!

So what's the moral of the story? Hollywood marriages just weren't meant to last. There's always a scandal, groupie, or better PR opportunity waiting around the corner. And the happier the couple seems in public, the more they are hiding. 

R.I.P. Amy Winehouse

The music industry has lost one of its greats today. It is being reported that Amy Winehouse, a 27 year old singer best known for her jazzy and soulful voice, has died today. According to an article on the LA Times' website, paramedics were called to her house in London around 4p.m. Saturday afternoon. Upon arrival, they found the singer dead. Her death comes after a few years of ups and downs and a very public battle with drug and alcohol addiction.Her official cause of death has not yet been released, but many speculate that it was likely a drug overdose. This story is still developing, and I will update you guys when I receive more information.

J-lo & Marc Anthony Have Called It Quits!

Well it seems like Jenny is headed back to the block...to find a new man! Jennifer Lopez and her husband of seven years, Marc Anthony are now headed for divorce court. The couple announced their split yesterday via a press release to People Magazine."We have decided to end our marriage," they tell PEOPLE in a joint statement. "This was a very difficult decision. We have come to an amicable conclusion on all matters." For most people, this might seem like a relatively short marriage. However, given Lopez's trail of short and failed marriages...7 years is actually a long time. In my opinion, Lopez would be better off never getting married again. It's obvious that she is simply not marriage material. Sadly, Lopez and Anthony's split will now be further complicated because they have children together.

Lopez gave birth to twins three years ago, so it will be interesting to see how they will be effected by the divorce. Bouncing from man-to-man will likely be hard on her children in the long run. Jenny's revolving door could leave those poor kids with "are you my daddy?" syndrome. But I digress! I have to admit, I didn't think they would last initially. However, after a few years, I thought maybe...just maybeeee this one would work. I guess in true Hollywood style relationships just aren't meant to last.

Curly Hair = Security Threat When Flying...

Touching a woman's hair has always been surrounded in controversy (especially in the black community). For many women, their hair is a very personal thing which leads to the issue of touching it being taboo. However, if you plan on traveling this summer, you might want to prepare for a major pat down.The TSA is now singling out women who have curly manes and insisting on doing an inspection of their hair before clearing them through security. Laura Adiele, whose hair was pulled up into a curly ponytail, was harassed by TSA workers recently, and she says the search was unfair. According to Adiele, there were several women in line with their hair pulled into up similar to hers, yet they weren't searched. The difference??? Adiele is black and the women around her were not black. Personally, after watching the video below I don't see why she was singled out. Especially considering the fact that Adiele went through the scanner that allows TSA staff to see advanced images of her entire body prior to them asking to search her hair. If anything was in her hair, it surely would have been seen during her in depth full body scan. With that said, I don't really think it was necessary to search her hair. I understand making sure people are "safe" before granting them access to fly and etc, but something about this rubs me the wrong way. Probably because I have natural hair...I don't know. I guess if I were in her shoes, I would let them search me, but I would feel very violated and offended while they were doing so. How would you feel if TSA asked to search your hair? Chris Brown Goes Blonde!!

They say blondes have more fun. While I am not sure I agree with that phrase, singer Chris Brown seems to be taking the bleached look for a test run. The singer tweeted a photo of himself today rocking his new golden locks.


Since posting the tweet, people have started to compare his new look to Sisqo. You know, the "has been" who had that song called "Thong Song." Well, it is hard to tell what Chris looks like simply from this one picture, but I actually think I'm going to go against the grain and say I like this look. Of course I will need to see other pics of it before I make my final judgment, but based off this photo it doesn't look bad to me. We shall see what it looks like as more pictures float to the surface though. But for now, I grant this look...APPROVED. What do you guys think???

Don't Call it a Comeback...Box Braids

It was the hottest hair trend in the 90's. Brandy had me wanting to be down, and Janet(Ms. Jackson if ya' nasty) had everyone seeking poetic justice. I have spent the past few months drooling over box braids (and dreadlock extensions). And it seems like I'm not alone, in loving the braided up look! In fact, box braids are apparently on their way to making a major come back. Solange Knowles has recently been spotted rocking some super long box braids. And the braid queen herself...Brandy Norwood has even gone back to rocking her bodacious box braids. I think I might have to give in to temptation and head down to my local braid shop stat...lol. This look will probably be great for the spring or even summer. Something, cute and low maintenance would be perfect for those (like myself) who are currently transitioning to natural hair. Heck, even if you aren't transitioning, this would still be a great protective style. I'm so happy to see textured styles making a comeback! So here's my question for you guys. Do you think box braids are ready for a comeback? Would you be bold enough to rock them??
