3.5 Years Post Relaxer Flat Iron + Length Check

Hey guys! I flat ironed my hair for the first time since February 2013! Check out the video below to find out how I achieved this look, and what my hair growth goals are for 2014 and beyond!

And here are a few pictures! I have marked off the area where my waist (WL) is for me.

Hair brushed straight down...

Hair brushed into "V" shape...

Look back at it...lol

And here's what it looked like on 1/4/14 after I trimmed off 1 to 2 inches...

My Yarn Braid Pictures!

So, a few months or so ago I stumbled across a video about this hair style called yarn braids. Prior to that, I had no clue what yarn braids even were lol. Basically, they are braids that look like dread locs. They are temporary though, and you can wash them like you would your hair. Yarn braids are also commonly referred to as "Genie Locs" as well. I've been thinking for a while now, that it would be nice to try some longggg and thick "Janet Jacksonesque" box braids. So... I finally gave in and made the commitment via yarn braids. It took me 17 hours to braid my hair. I spent 8 hours one night doing the top half, and 9 the next night doing the back half. I wanted to try some color as well, so I decided to add a bold pop of blue in the back. I was inspired by fellow Youtuber "shewillbe" to try this style. I love it! I love the look it gives and the fact that I am trying something new. Most of all, I am proud that I did it myself! I have never braided my hair before, and never knew I could do this on my own. But thanks to Youtube tutorials, anything is possible.  I will be posting more blogs and videos soon with details on how I actually braided my hair, so stay tuned for that. For now, please just enjoy my slide show of lovely pictures showing off my great work. Toodles!

My First Half Wig: "Kelly" by New Born Free

Hello heart breakers! First, let me start by saying I missed you guys! I have been gone for a while, but I am back with a review! This is my first time ever trying a half wig, so I am super excited. I have been wearing my natural hair out in wash and goes all winter(even though it is cold). This means I leave the house with wet hair every morning. I decided to give my hair a break and try something new. I wanted to try a half wig because I wanted the option of wearing some of my own hair out and giving my hairline a break. So....I went on a search for the perfect kinky/curly lace wig and decided to go with "Kelly" from New Born Free. She was sent to me by divatress.com. She is sooooo fierce! I have been getting tons of compliments too. Overall, I am happy with my choice, and I think "Kelly" might become a fav of mine. I could go on, but I think you should just watch my video review instead. Click here to watch my Youtube review of  "Kelly." And of  course, here are a few pics. Toodles!

Curly Hair = Security Threat When Flying...

Touching a woman's hair has always been surrounded in controversy (especially in the black community). For many women, their hair is a very personal thing which leads to the issue of touching it being taboo. However, if you plan on traveling this summer, you might want to prepare for a major pat down. The TSA is now singling out women who have curly manes and insisting on doing an inspection of their hair before clearing them through security. Laura Adiele, whose hair was pulled up into a curly ponytail, was harassed by TSA workers recently, and she says the search was unfair. According to Adiele, there were several women in line with their hair pulled into up similar to hers, yet they weren't searched. The difference??? Adiele is black and the women around her were not black. Personally, after watching the video below I don't see why she was singled out. Especially considering the fact that Adiele went through the scanner that allows TSA staff to see advanced images of her entire body prior to them asking to search her hair. If anything was in her hair, it surely would have been seen during her in depth full body scan. With that said, I don't really think it was necessary to search her hair. I understand making sure people are "safe" before granting them access to fly and etc, but something about this rubs me the wrong way. Probably because I have natural hair...I don't know. I guess if I were in her shoes, I would let them search me, but I would feel very violated and offended while they were doing so. How would you feel if TSA asked to search your hair? See the video below for more on this story.

I Finally Big Chopped it ALLLLL Off!

Hey everyone! I finally big chopped all of my relaxed ends off. I did it on April 1st, 2011! Please enjoy the videos below! The first one is footage of me actually chopping off my hair. The second video is a slide show of my TWA (Teenie Weenie Afro)! Enjoy!

Raw footage of me doing the big chop:

-It is kind of long, but I wanted to show the entire thing without heavy editing. This was a major moment in my life, and I want to be able to share it in its entirety. Also, I talked throughout the entire experience, so it should be somewhat interesting to watch.

Pictures of my natural hair post big chop:

-This video is very short and to the point. It is basically a slide show of my 1st week as a natural. I did wash and goes and even attempted my first puff! Check it out!
