Girly Snapback Hats...My New Obsession!

Hello heart breakers! I have been thinking it is time to revisit one of my old favs...the baseball hat. Back in 2003-2005 I was in love with rocking a slightly side turned snapback boy scout hat(I was ahead of my time). That was during the time when NERD/the Neptunes were all the rage, and baseball hats were in on the cusp of becoming in style. I would wear my snapback hat in a sexy/girly way though. As in  I wore heels with everything back then, even jeans!  So even on my "comfy" days I still  looked cute and stylish. I would wear my hat with a low chignon (bun) on the left side and the tilt the brim of my hat to the right so my eyes could be seen. I loved that style and it was veryyyy flattering to my face shape(round/chubby Janet Jackson cheeks lol). Of course, the side-turned hat trend died down, and I hung up my hat for good. Or so I thought...now there is a new "woman in baseball hat"  trend! It's all thanks to the return of the snapback hat. And they aren't just making them for boys anymore. Companies are now putting a more feminine touch on these hats. I must say, this is one trend I will be wearing this spring and summer for sure. I already have a few in mind that I would love to try....

This is a new release from Those Girls Are Wild. I absolutely love the Kente cloth accent on the brim! And it is only $42 right now on their site. I think this will be the first one I buy. It is too cute to pass up. It has sort of  a rugged, natural, earthy vibe mixed with a little glitz and glam. I love that it could pretty much go with anything since it is so colorful. They even have  a few pink accents here and there on the hat too! There is nothing boring about this hat at all!

The back

And I would love to get a Memphis Tigers one made in blue with tiger stripes  on the brim kinda like the ones below...

I also love these animal print designs as well!

Working Woman...

In this week's celeb makeover news Rihanna has been seen sporting a new do'. The Barbadian singer has been  known to change it up pretty often. This time she is rocking a blonde wig, or perhaps it is a full sew-in. Either way it looks like she is channeling Tina Turner and Heather Locklear back in the 80s. I think the 80s and 90s are back in style, but she is incorporating too many elements in this one look. She comes across as trashy and dumpster chic...minus the chic.
The shorts are in style again, and can look decent depending on how you wear them. Thigh high "hooker" boots are also all the rage these days. But I think they are a bit classier when paired with black skinny pants/jeans and a nice blouse. It looks a little more sexy and high class that way instead of coming off like a street walker.

And lastly, there's the horrible blonde weave or wig. I love blonde hair on black women, and I think many of of us can pull it off because it contrasts with our skin and "pops" so to speak. However, she chose a horrible wig. It looks a bit ratty and trailer park-ish. I'm guessing this is what she was going for, but it is so unflattering. If I saw her walking down the street, I would definitely think she was a street walker. The look is so cheap and tacky! I feel like she is on her way to one of those 80s rock videos. You know, the ones with the women in daisy dukes and bikini tops dancing on the hood of a red corvette or something lol. Great, now I can't get "Pour Some Sugar on Me" out of my head. Personally, I would like to see Rihanna try wearing braids or dread locs. She could even wear them in red, blonde or some funky color that would suit her! I think that would look really nice on her and accentuate her island side. We haven't seen her island flavor in a while, so braids/locs would be refreshing. Plus, it would be a little different from what most pop stars are wearing right now. Other than Solange, most people are rocking a very cookie-cutter look.

So, what do you think...Is Rihanna's new look hot or a hot mess?

Get it Twisted: Turban Time!

Okay ladies(and gents) I have to confess, I have a new obsession. At the moment  I have an  uncontrollable attraction to turbans. That's right, I have been bitten by the "turban loving" bug. Now that I have yarn braids, I sooooo want to try rocking a turban with them. My only worry is that I will end up looking like I'm tying my hair up for bed instead of looking like a fierce Nubian queen lol. We shall see! I will let you guys know when I try one...and there will be tons of pics. I can't wait to "get it twisted" via a fierce and funky turban.

Anywho, turbans have been creeping into the fashion scene for about a year now. The style has even made it's way onto the runway for major fashion shows and Sarah Jessica Parker (SJP) wore one in the most recent Sex and the City movie. However, I don't think the major fashion shows, SJP, and etc have done the style justice. Please see the horrendous evidence below.

Turbans on the runway!

The turban can be a hit or miss. I think SJP, and many of the "trendy" celebs make the trend look silly and costume-like. In my opinion, it looks best (and effortless) on women who already have a certain amount of  chic in a natural and earthy way (if that makes any sense). It's hard to explain, but you have to have a certain essence in order to pull it off. Otherwise, you will end up looking like you are going to a Halloween party. Either that, or a fortune teller at the local fair! And I don't know anyone who wants to look like they are trying too hard. Fashion should accentuate what we have going on naturally. So if you try a turban, and it looks like you are dressed as a character - the look is probably not for you. Here's another example of a turban gone wrong.

But when the turban is done right, it looks breath taking! For example, Solange Knowles has been rocking them for quite some time now and she is one of my personal favs. She makes it look so effortless!  I love her style in general though, and she might be my favorite fashionista at the moment. She can wear the turban with something dressy and conservative or just throw on a pair of blue jeans and a tank top and still make the head wrap look flawless.

Others who got it right...

What do you say kinky ladies & gents, is the turban trend hot...or not?

Meet My New Blonde Bob wig "Toby"

Holas mis amigas! I am back with a wig review for you guys! I have been hearing and seeing rave reviews about "Toby" from the Vanessa 5th Avenue Collection, so I decided to give her a try! I'm wearing her in the color V613, which is a platinum blonde frosted over an off black color. This was my first time wearing a short straight/bob style before, so I was super excited about it! The bold pop of color also lured me in as well. Overall...I would say I like this wig. I would definitely order it again! To see my detailed review, please watch my review video. In the video, I give a complete list of pros and cons on the wig and more! Plus you will also get a closer look at the wig in action! Click here to watch my review! Also, this wig was sent to me by samsbeauty.com, but my review of it is 100 % honest. Toby  is currently priced at $25.99 on their site. Click here to purchase her!  Also, here's a look at seven hot ways to rock  Miss Toby...

Look # 1...An exaggerated feathered swoop, and a part on the left side!

Look # 2...A normal swoop with the part on the left. The sideburns are tucked behind my ears for this look!

Look # 3... I added a cute little bow! Looks kind of emo right? :)

Look # 4:...Parted on the right side with a normal swoop. All sideburns are combed down!

Look # 5.... Add a beanie!

Look #6......I combed all of the blonde bangs over to the left side. This gives a dramatic two-toned effect. Very punk rock!

Look # 7...A headband added to the look above!

Hanging Tough, While Looking Fierce!

Hello heart breakers! I am back with a fashion and entertainment combo today! Some of you might already know this due to my announcements of Twitter, Youtube, and Facebook. However, a few of you might still be left out in the dark haha. Last week was pretty amazing. Why you ask?? Well because I went to see New Kids On The Block and The Back Street Boys in concert! NKOTBSB definitely put on a good show. The boys sang all of their classic hits plus some new stuff. It was not a dull drab show that might be expected from middle aged entertainers. The guys were going hard like they were still in their prime. NKOTB had more stamina than most guys in their 20's lol! Their vocals were on point as well! The guys took turns performing hits from each bands hay day, and they even joined forces on some songs throughout the show as well.

It was like watching a super boy band on steroids or something-definitely what I expected and much more! I danced the entire night...in my seat of course. We were seated in a box, so I didn't want to let loose lol. Plus hubby was with me looking bored and depressed the entire time...poor guy. Okay, so the pic below shows him smiling lol. That was taken while we we waiting for the show to begin. After the show started, the smiling stopped haha. Oh well, he didn't stop my fun time...it was a blast. I felt 5 years old all over again.

Now onto more important matters- what I wore to the show! We got our tickets literally 3 days before the show, so I didn't have time to order an official NKOTB shirt online. I didn't let that stop me though. I am an avid DIY kind of gal' so I immediately started working on making my own custom shirt for the show. I headed to Michael's' and bought a pack of plain white t-shirts, some new Fiskar scissors, and iron on transfer paper. I then cut my plain white shirt into a crop top style and shredded the sleeves. I watched a few Youtube videos to get a feel for the shredding thing, but it was super easy and fun! Anywho, I then created a "design" in MS word and printed it onto my transfer paper. I then ironed the design onto the front of my crop top and tadaaaa...I had an amazing shirt. The project was fun and simple.

I paired my crop top with a high-waisted pin striped pencil skirt, a black tank top, white and black pumps, red wayfarer sunglasses with clear frames, and a yellow handbag. I added the yellow for a punch of something different and fun. As far as jewelry goes... I wore a fun Mardi Gras necklace, red hoops earrings, and a red bangle. I also wore yellow nail polish on my feet and hands. For my hair, I wore "Drew" styled in a ponytail. Please click here to see a video on my outfit!

Since my skirt had such a high waistline, I tucked the front of the shirt in and left the back out.

This look is cute with the crop top untucked as well though!
