My Yarn Braid Pictures!

So, a few months or so ago I stumbled across a video about this hair style called yarn braids. Prior to that, I had no clue what yarn braids even were lol. Basically, they are braids that look like dread locs. They are temporary though, and you can wash them like you would your hair. Yarn braids are also commonly referred to as "Genie Locs" as well. I've been thinking for a while now, that it would be nice to try some longggg and thick "Janet Jacksonesque" box braids. So... I finally gave in and made the commitment via yarn braids. It took me 17 hours to braid my hair. I spent 8 hours one night doing the top half, and 9 the next night doing the back half. I wanted to try some color as well, so I decided to add a bold pop of blue in the back. I was inspired by fellow Youtuber "shewillbe" to try this style. I love it! I love the look it gives and the fact that I am trying something new. Most of all, I am proud that I did it myself! I have never braided my hair before, and never knew I could do this on my own. But thanks to Youtube tutorials, anything is possible.  I will be posting more blogs and videos soon with details on how I actually braided my hair, so stay tuned for that. For now, please just enjoy my slide show of lovely pictures showing off my great work. Toodles!

My Natural Hair Puff Tutorial

Hello heart breakers! A few weeks ago I posted a video on Youtube showing you all a new style that I tried for the first time. It was an afro puff/ponytail that made me feel like Esperanza Spalding at the Grammy awards this year haha! Please keep in mind that this style is NOT an exact replication of Esperanza's hair style. I received several requests to make a tutorial video showing exactly how I achieved the look. Well, I am here with that video today! Please check out the video if you are interested in giving this style a try. It is simple and a great style to try if you are looking for "2nd day hair." In fact, this puff is the only style that I can actually achieve 2nd day hair with at the moment! At any rate, I enjoyed making this video for you guys, and I love the way my hair looks when I wear this style. I hope you love it as much as I do! Click "Read More" to see the pictures and video!

My Eco Styler Custard...

I ended up making some of the glorious eco styler gel custard yesterday! I have heard soooooo much about this, so I had to try it for myself. My version varies from the original one because I decided to just use things I already have instead of going out and buying more oils and etc. I made my concoction using items that I know work for me. The results were amazing! My hair is now soft, but it has hold. I think I will use this as my styling agent for my daily wash n' goes since it provides hold without the crunch and etc! I have only used it on a twist out thus far, but I will be using it for my wash n' go either tomorrow or the day after, so I will let you all know how my curls like it then. But enough talk...here is what I used to make the custard.

Ingredients:

  • 4 Teaspoons of Extra Virgin Olive Oil(the Kroger brand)
  • 4 Teaspoons of Eco Stlyer Gel with Olive Oil (from Sally's)
  • 1 Teaspoon of Giovanni Direct Leave-In Conditioner (from Target)
  • 1 Teaspoon of Kinky Curly Curling Custard (from Whole Foods)
  • 1 Teaspoon of Kinky Curly Knot Today

Directions:
  • Scoop gel into a small mixing bowl
  • Add in Extra virgin olive oil
  • Stir until mixed thoroughly
  • Then add in all other ingredients
  • Stir the mixture for about 2 minutes
  • When the mixture is ready, it will be a cloudy/creamy white color
  • The texture will be similar to yogurt...VERYYYY thick
  • Your end result should be thick, creamy, and just plain awesome!
