I'm Ready for "Glee" to Exit Stage Left!

Hello heart breakers! I am back with sort of a mini rant. As some of you might already know, I am quite a fan of the performing arts. I have been involved in theatre, dance, music and etc for most of my life. So when the hit show "Glee" came along in 2009 I was immediately hooked! I remember seeing the commercials for the show months before it aired and I was so excited by the idea of a show featuring kids who were into the arts. I was a "Gleek" before "Gleeks" were even thought of lol. I watched the pilot episode and the show lived up to my expectations. I even convinced my hubby to watch a few! Season one was amazing and I liked where the show was going. Well, everything except for the writers basically setting up Will Schuester(Glee Club Director) to cheat on and eventually leave his wife. I am not down with cheaters and I always hoped he and his wife would get over her "cray cray" antics and move on...sigh.

Anywho, the show had killer performances and a concept that many didn't have at the time. It was a great way to bring the theater/musical aspect to a TV show. If not done the right way, this kind of concept would have come off as too cheesy and would have been canned after season one. I'm sure you all are wondering why I think the show should be cancelled. Well, after season two the show went in a different direction. It became too geared towards pleasing the masses with stunts and etc.It was obvious that the producers were willing to do anything to get the ratings up. The writing reflected this, and the show started to resemble all of the other trendy teenage shows out there. If I wanted to see cheesy fluff, I would of just watched "Gossip Girl" or one of those other generic shows instead.

I knew the show would never be the same once they started allowing big celebrities to be featured. The focus was on Britney Spears, Madonna and etc...not the actual characters and plot. People were more excited to see the celebrity of the week. The show lost it's spunk and became nothing more than a stereotypical commercialized hot mess full of gimmicks! It was recently announced that the show will be returning for a 4th season. However, most of the main characters are graduating this year, so it will be interesting to see if the producers will try to keep the show going. Perhaps they will pull a "Degrassi" and just introduce new 9th grade characters to keep the show alive. Either way, I don't see the show making it past season four, and I hope they hang up their choir robes for good. In the end I feel like Tyra Banks did when she went off on that contestant named Tiffany during eliminations at America's Next Top Model. I was rooting for you "Glee," we were all rooting for you. LOL.

Red vs. Blonde...

Okay, so in my last blog post I discussed going blonde. Now I'm debating if I should just go red instead. I am on the fence. I know I would like blonde, as I have tried it before with wigs and it looks nice. However, I think red would look nice on me too. The problem?? Well, I have never tried a red wig so I have no idea if red would TRULY look decent on me lol. I've seen lots of darker women around my color wearing red, and it looks hot on them.. So, I guess it could work on me too. The hard thing is picking the right shade though. I don't like all shades of red, so it has to be EXACTLY the shade I have in mind. Not too cola(grandma red). Not too bright (Rhianna red). A little bit alternative (emo red). But something acceptable in the work place (stick up my @ss red).  Something like this...

I would hate to be stuck with Ronald McDonald or crusty the clown red/sideshow bob red hair.  I hate the color Rhianna has below. I like red that has more a of black undertone if that makes any sense.

If I choose red, it would have to be a bold color, but not something that would be shunned in the work place. So here are the pros and cons of each color. You tell me what you would do.

**Red**

Pros:

1. Would be something new and fresh.
2. I could experience color without possibly using bleach and damaging my hair.
3. It would look nice with my complexion(maybe?)
4. Perhaps  it will be easier to lift my base later on if I decide to go blonde.

Cons:

1. I heard red dye fades like crazy. I have to co-wash my hair daily, so it will prob fade too fast.
2. Blonde hair would be my first choice, since I just started liking red a few months ago. What if I have regrets/a change of heart right after?
3. Might be considered less professional to employers since it will look a bit alternative. I'm trying to transition into TV News reporting and most reporters are either blonde or brunette. In my field "the look" is very important and they are very conservative. I don't see anchors down south with bold red hair. Most stick to the standard look. I'm already pusing it by being natural.

**Blonde**

Pros:

1. I think blonde afros with highlights are sooooo cute and fun!
2. The highlights will add depth and dimension to my curls and make them look more defined. I have superrrrr thick hair so it often just looks like a black curly cloud. There's no dimension.
3. It's a cute summer color.
4. I think it will be okay to co-wash daily since blonde needs lots of moisture.
5. Probably more acceptable in the workplace than Red hair since red might considered alternative and unprofessional to "stuffy" employers.
6. If I get tired of it, then I can just put red over it.

Cons:

1. Could cause my hair damage(loosen curl pattern/texture if bleach is used).
2. Could stunt my progress and have me stuck at APL if I can't retain length.

Black Women Gone Blonde!

Hello heart breakers! If you are familiar with my Youtube channel, then you've probably heard me discuss coloring my hair. I've never dyed my hair before, and I have been looking into it for a few years. In fact, one of the main reasons I went natural was so I could experiment with color as safely as possible.My relaxed hair was healthy, but I didn't want to risk having two chemicals in my hair at once. I've heard many horror stories about coloring while relaxed. And the women in my family always suffered from a setback if they added color to their healthy relaxed hair. At any rate, I really want to take the plunge this summer and go some shade of light brown with blonde highlights. Possibly 4/27, or something closer to the freetress wigs that I wear in the color F33/32/240. Now, it is just a matter of finding someone to get the job done. Wish me luck guys! In the meantime, here are some pictures of me rocking blonde tones. I plan to stick to something more similar to the wig "Nari" below.

Girly Snapback Hats...My New Obsession!

Hello heart breakers! I have been thinking it is time to revisit one of my old favs...the baseball hat. Back in 2003-2005 I was in love with rocking a slightly side turned snapback boy scout hat(I was ahead of my time). That was during the time when NERD/the Neptunes were all the rage, and baseball hats were in on the cusp of becoming in style. I would wear my snapback hat in a sexy/girly way though. As in  I wore heels with everything back then, even jeans!  So even on my "comfy" days I still  looked cute and stylish. I would wear my hat with a low chignon (bun) on the left side and the tilt the brim of my hat to the right so my eyes could be seen. I loved that style and it was veryyyy flattering to my face shape(round/chubby Janet Jackson cheeks lol). Of course, the side-turned hat trend died down, and I hung up my hat for good. Or so I thought...now there is a new "woman in baseball hat"  trend! It's all thanks to the return of the snapback hat. And they aren't just making them for boys anymore. Companies are now putting a more feminine touch on these hats. I must say, this is one trend I will be wearing this spring and summer for sure. I already have a few in mind that I would love to try....

This is a new release from Those Girls Are Wild. I absolutely love the Kente cloth accent on the brim! And it is only $42 right now on their site. I think this will be the first one I buy. It is too cute to pass up. It has sort of  a rugged, natural, earthy vibe mixed with a little glitz and glam. I love that it could pretty much go with anything since it is so colorful. They even have  a few pink accents here and there on the hat too! There is nothing boring about this hat at all!

Taste the Rainbow!

I was super bored yesterday and wanted to play with my eye shadow pallet. I decided to try something bold and fun. I spent a little time surfing YouTube in search of a good rainbow eye shadow tutorial, and I found one by Xsparkage! I used my Beauty Treat 120 Professional Pallet and whatever else I had around. Luckily, I was able to find colors similar to the ones she used in her tutorial. It was a fun and easy look! I would recommend giving it a try if you want to try something new. I actually ended up wearing the shadow out and about during the day while running errands, and I wore it to a family dinner that night. I received lots of compliments on my bold look too. Working Woman...

In this week's celeb makeover news Rihanna has been seen sporting a new do'. The Barbadian singer has been  known to change it up pretty often. This time she is rocking a blonde wig, or perhaps it is a full sew-in. Either way it looks like she is channeling Tina Turner and Heather Locklear back in the 80s. I think the 80s and 90s are back in style, but she is incorporating too many elements in this one look. She comes across as trashy and dumpster chic...minus the chic.

The shorts are in style again, and can look decent depending on how you wear them. Thigh high "hooker" boots are also all the rage these days. But I think they are a bit classier when paired with black skinny pants/jeans and a nice blouse. It looks a little more sexy and high class that way instead of coming off like a street walker. 

 

And lastly, there's the horrible blonde weave or wig. I love blonde hair on black women, and I think many of of us can pull it off because it contrasts with our skin and "pops" so to speak. However, she chose a horrible wig. It looks a bit ratty and trailer park-ish. I'm guessing this is what she was going for, but it is so unflattering. If I saw her walking down the street, I would definitely think she was a street walker. The look is so cheap and tacky! I feel like she is on her way to one of those 80s rock videos. You know, the ones with the women in daisy dukes and bikini tops dancing on the hood of a red corvette or something lol. Great, now I can't get "Pour Some Sugar on Me" out of my head. Personally, I would like to see Rihanna try wearing braids or dread locs. She could even wear them in red, blonde or some funky color that would suit her! I think that would look really nice on her and accentuate her island side. We haven't seen her island flavor in a while, so braids/locs would be refreshing. Plus, it would be a little different from what most pop stars are wearing right now. Other than Solange, most people are rocking a very cookie-cutter look.
